Magpul CTR Stock Review & Installation

I purchased a Magpul CTR stock for my newly acquired Smith & Wesson M&P15. Before purchasing a new stock for your AR15, you must know if your buffer tube is mil-spec or commericial. My M&P15 took the mil-spec version.

Upon inspection, the CTR looks flawless. It feels a lot sturdier than the factory installed stock. The rubber butt-pad makes this stock a little more comfortable than the factory stock. The commercial version comes with a slightly bigger butt-pad (.30" mil-spec, .55" commercial). The commercial butt-pad can be used with the mil-spec CTR, but I see no need for it. Magpul also makes cheek risers for the CTR, but they will interfere with the charging handle on the AR15.

The installation of the CTR is quick and smooth. Installation time is under 1 minute. The CTR locks in place with no wobble at all. The release lever and locking mechanism operate very smoothly and do no feel "cheap" at all.

In addition to the added stability and comfort of the stock, the CTR allows flexibility for different kind of slings. I use the quick disconnect (QD) mount for my Larue VTAC sling. The stock has two standard 1.25" sling mounts (one on the bottom and one on the rear) and a lanyard hole for custom paracord rigs.
